Hi! I’m Kavita.

I live and practice on the lands of the Arakwal People of the Bunjalung Nation, also known as the Northern Rivers of NSW. From here I work with people both online and in-person.

Seeds
I was fortunate to grow up with a family who emphasised the importance of health – mental, physical, and emotional. I was encouraged to ask for support and seek support, where and when I needed it. In what is largely an individualistic culture, I am so grateful to have had this perspective; the value of holding and being held by others, of seeking support when needed, and being encouraged to understand myself more deeply. It’s no surprise that I have been motivated to bring this to others.

Values
From a tender age, I have been curious about and intrigued by the inner landscapes of other people, and exploring how they live their lives externally and internally. This curiosity led me into the realms of psychology and philosophy, self-expression through art and writing and poetry, and these are still all things I spend much of my time engaging with. I have always been a sensitive and empathic person, sensitive to the beauty in life, and sensitive to its sorrows. I believe in confronting all parts of our human experience as a way to flourish in our lives, and this confrontation can be gentle, soulful and collaborative. As a client, through the years I have found myself working best with therapists who have a holistic approach, who hold and explore difficult questions alongside me, and who look beyond surface circumstances to uncover more subtle or nuanced things. This is the therapist I strive to be.

Experience
My studies in Psychology provided me with a great introduction to the theory and science of human minds and behaviour. Later, my Art Therapy studies offered a completely different perspective on therapy; emphasising all that lies around our words, and the power of art processes to cut through to the essence of our experience. Finally, pursuing my Masters in Psychotherapy was the culmination and deepening of my higher education journey. This integrated my skills and philosophies and developed my integrative, multi-modal approach as a practitioner.
