Art therapy is a form of Psychotherapy that harnesses the power of creativity and self-expression to promote emotional healing and personal growth. Here we engage in a process that goes beyond words, allowing us to tap into deeper layers of our thoughts, emotions, and experiences. In art therapy, we use various art materials and techniques to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and non-judgmental space.

Through the art-making process and guided reflection, you can gain insights, express emotions that are difficult to verbalise, practice mindfulness techniques and discover new perspectives. Art therapy can be a transformative journey that allows you to access your inner wisdom, develop self-awareness, and foster self-compassion. No prior artistic experience is required; the focus is on the process rather than the final product.

Art therapy is a relatively new field, but its roots and evidence span far back. It has been influenced by a diverse array of interconnected fields including art, art history, anthropology, psychology, and psychiatry.Art has been intertwined with health, serving as a crucial element in healing practices and rituals through symbolic expression. The drive to create art is an innate human instinct, as fundamental to our nature as language and social engagement. When we combine these aspects into therapy; art, language and connection, we have an incredible, holistic approach to wellness.

A 1:1 Art Therapy session will run for 60 minutes. If we are working in-person the materials will be provided, and if online we will discuss any required materials prior to the session. I structure sessions with an initial landing in the space together, involving a verbal and bodily check-in and discussion. From there we will move into a guided meditation/visualisation. You will then be prompted to use your art materials, and collaboratively we explore, discuss and integrate what arises.
